Pre-Primary Teacher Training Syllabus
What you study at each level of APTTI's pre-primary teacher training, and the outcomes you can expect.
The pre-primary teacher training syllabus covers child development and child psychology, teaching methodology, classroom management, language development, creative activities (art, music and drama) and lesson planning. Supervised teaching practice may be included. Higher levels study the same areas in more depth and with more assignments.
Subject areas
| Area | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Child development and psychology | Physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional development from 2 to 6; how young children think and learn; milestones and individual differences. |
| Teaching methodology | Play-way and activity-based learning, thematic planning, Montessori-influenced methods, storytelling, songs and rhymes. |
| Language and early literacy | Listening and speaking, vocabulary, phonological awareness, phonics, pre-writing and early reading; supporting home languages. |
| Early numeracy | Counting, number sense, sorting, patterns, shapes, measures and everyday maths through play. |
| Creative activities | Art, craft, music, movement and drama as ways to learn and express ideas. |
| Classroom management | Routines, transitions, visual timetables, positive guidance and setting up learning corners. |
| Planning and assessment | Weekly themes, lesson plans, observation, portfolios and reporting to parents without tests. |
| Health, safety and care | Hygiene, nutrition, first aid awareness, supervision and child protection. |
| Working with parents | Communication, settling-in plans, parent meetings and partnership at home. |
| Teaching practice | Supervised teaching practice in a pre-primary classroom may be included; confirm arrangements with admissions. |
Subject areas are from APTTI's course page; the detailed descriptions show how these areas are normally taught in early-years training. APTTI does not publish a unit-by-unit module list, so ask admissions for the current outline for your level.
Learning outcomes
APTTI lists these outcomes for the course:
- Handling children effectively
- Developing Montessori teaching skills
- Helping children grow in an age-appropriate way
- Making sure children learn collaboratively
How depth increases by level
| Level | Eligibility | Hours and duration | Fee (India) | Fee (international) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Certificate | 10th pass | 120 hours / 6 months | ₹10,000 + GST | US$170 |
| Diploma | 12th pass | 200 hours / 10 months | ₹20,000 + GST | US$325 |
| PG Diploma | Graduation (any subject) | 240 hours / 12 months | ₹30,000 + GST | US$475 |
| Integrated PG Diploma | Graduation (any subject) | 480 hours / 18 months | ₹35,000 + GST | US$549 |
The Certificate (120 hours) covers the essentials; the Diploma (200 hours) adds depth in methods and planning; the PG Diploma (240 hours) suits graduates who want a thorough grounding; the Integrated PG Diploma (480 hours) gives the most time for practice and broader early-childhood topics.
Curriculum links
The content fits well with India's NEP 2020 foundational stage and the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (NCF-FS, 2022), which favour play, conversation and observation-based assessment, and with early-years frameworks used abroad, such as the UK's EYFS in British-curriculum schools.
