What jobs can I get after pre-primary teacher training?

By APTTI Educational Content · Updated · 2 min read

After pre-primary teacher training you can work as a nursery, LKG, UKG or kindergarten teacher, pre-primary assistant teacher, play-school or day-care teacher, Montessori assistant, early-years tutor, activity or phonics teacher, or, with experience, a pre-primary coordinator. Many trained teachers also open their own play school or day-care centre.

What this means in practice

APTTI's course page lists public and private schools, early childhood education centres and preschools as employers, and offers job assistance at the end of the course.

Common job titles

  • Pre-primary teacher / KG teacher
  • Nursery or play-group teacher
  • Assistant teacher / KG assistant
  • Day-care or creche supervisor
  • Phonics or activity teacher
  • Online early-years tutor
  • Pre-primary coordinator or head of early years
  • Pre-school owner or manager

Where the jobs are

Private schools with pre-primary wings, standalone play schools and franchises, Montessori houses, international schools, corporate creches, NGOs and community centres, and Gulf community schools.

Matching jobs to your level

Certificate holders most often start as assistants, play-group teachers or day-care staff. Diploma holders commonly become lead nursery, LKG or UKG teachers in play schools and private schools. PG Diploma holders, being graduates, are well placed for larger CBSE, ICSE, international and Gulf schools. Integrated PG Diploma holders with experience can aim at senior teacher, coordinator or pre-school management roles. Whatever your level, a year or two of good experience and references often matters as much as the certificate when you apply for your next job.

Practical next steps

  • List the job types that interest you.
  • Search Naukri, Indeed, LinkedIn and school websites in your city.
  • Prepare a CV and demo activity.
  • Apply to several types of settings.
ExampleAfter her Diploma, Shreya in Pune got offers from a play-school franchise and a CBSE school's pre-primary wing, and chose the school for its training programme.
What to keep in mind: APTTI offers job assistance; no course can guarantee a job.
