Can I teach in Dubai with a pre-primary teacher training certificate?

By APTTI Educational Content · Updated · 2 min read

You may be able to work in a Dubai school with pre-primary training, but the certificate alone is rarely enough. Dubai's private schools are regulated by KHDA, and teachers are licensed through the UAE Teacher Licensing System. Schools commonly ask for a bachelor's degree plus a recognised teaching or early-years qualification for KG teachers; KG assistant roles may have lower requirements.

What this means in practice

Many Indian-curriculum schools in Dubai recruit graduates with pre-primary, Montessori or NTT training for KG1, KG2 and FS roles, especially candidates with good English and experience.

What strengthens your application

  • A bachelor's degree (attested for UAE use)
  • Early-years training such as a PG Diploma in Pre-Primary Teacher Training
  • Classroom experience with references
  • Strong spoken English
  • Awareness of the UAE Teacher Licensing System and child-safeguarding expectations

Assistant roles

Teaching assistant and KG assistant posts are a common entry point and may accept 12th pass plus training.

Preparing documents for the UAE

UAE employers and licensing processes usually need degree certificates that have been attested in your home country and by the UAE embassy or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Start this early, because attestation can take weeks. Keep scanned copies of your passport, degree, mark sheets, training certificates and experience letters ready. Also expect checks on references and good conduct. Being organised with documents can make the difference when a school wants to hire quickly.

Practical next steps

  • Check KHDA and school adverts for current requirements.
  • Get your degree attested if needed.
  • Build experience and references.
  • Prepare a strong demo lesson.
ExampleRoshni, a graduate from Thrissur with a PG Diploma, joined a Dubai CBSE school as a KG assistant and moved to a lead KG2 role after two years.
What to keep in mind: UAE rules change regularly. Confirm the latest licensing requirements with the school or authority before you relocate.
