Can I do pre-primary teacher training after 12th?
Yes. After 12th you can join APTTI's Diploma in Pre-Primary Teacher Training: 200 hours over 10 months, online, for ₹20,000 + GST (US$325). You can also choose the shorter 120-hour Certificate. The Diploma is the most common choice for 12th-pass learners who want to work as nursery, LKG or UKG teachers.
What this means in practice
Students from any stream (arts, commerce or science) are eligible. Many study while doing a degree by distance or working as an assistant.
Why the Diploma suits 12th-pass learners
- More hours on methods, planning and classroom management
- Stronger profile for lead teacher roles in private schools
- Time to complete assignments alongside work or college
Other routes after 12th
If you want to teach primary classes in government schools, D.El.Ed is the usual route. The NCTE also lists a two-year Diploma in Pre-School Education (DPSE). APTTI's Diploma is a flexible professional course for private pre-schools.
Studying alongside college
Many 12th-pass learners take the Diploma while doing a distance or regular degree. Because it is online and self-paced, you can study in the evenings or at weekends. Plan around exam seasons: study a little more in quieter months and less during college exams. By the time you graduate, you will have both a degree and early-years training, which is the combination many Gulf and international schools look for. Assisting in a pre-school during college breaks adds practical experience to that profile.
Practical next steps
